Layout Editing

Once the content for your project has entered the "design" stage and is now looking more like the finished product, there is always a second-round of editing that needs to be done.

The copy may be too long in certain areas, words may be cut in half, and there will likely be a few widows and orphans. There are all kinds of creative ways that layout editors deal with these issues, such as minor rewriting, character spacing, and tracking.

It's also important at this stage to evaluate how the design and copy work together to communicate your message, whatever it is. Do the photos support the copy? And does the text wrap nicely around the graphics?

At this point, it makes sense to go through the content one last time to make sure that all of these problems are resolved and that the finished product is easy (and enjoyable) to read.

Using InDesign CS3, I work with graphic designers to incorporate any necessary copy changes into the document.
